OKCU Saxophone Day

Each year, 100+ saxophonists of all ages and skill levels descend on Oklahoma City University's campus for an electric day of music-making. OCU Saxophone Day, hosted at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, brings together saxophonists age 11+ for masterclasses with a world-class guest artist, hands-on workshops, an special artist recital, gear from exhibitors and vendors, and an unforgettable Monster Saxophone Ensemble farewell concert.

Our event will take place on Saturday September 19, 2026 at OCU’s Wanda L. Bass Music Center. (Click here for a Google Maps link)

 8:30 a.m. – Check-in & warm-up period 
9 a.m. – Monster Saxophone Ensemble rehearsal 
10:30 a.m. – Short break, visit exhibits 
11 a.m. – Featured Guest Artist recital
12 p.m. – Lunch on own, visit exhibits 
1:30 p.m. – Masterclass #1
     (solo and chamber performance slots are available via application!)
2:30 p.m. – Short break
2:45 p.m. – Masterclass #2
     (solo and chamber performance slots are available via application!)
4 p.m. – Monster Saxophone Ensemble sound check & final group photo
5 p.m. – Monster Saxophone Ensemble Farewell Concert (open to the public)

OCU Double Reed Day

What: Double Reed Day is an event for oboists and bassoonists of all ages and skill levels. Activities will include the following:

  • Masterclasses with guest artists and OCU faculty

  • Double reed ensemble: All participants are invited to play in our double reed ensemble. At the end of the day we hope friends and parents will stick around to hear the ensemble's performance.

  • Reed class: Explore and learn about reed-making

  • Performances by OCU students, faculty, and guest artists

Double Reed Day at Oklahoma State University

Double Reed Day at Oklahoma State University

Middle and high school oboists and bassoonists who have played for at least one year are welcome to join us on campus for an engaging day of double reed activities! This event offers the chance to collaborate with Dr. Heather Macdonald & Dr. Shawn Seguin and their students, explore the craft of reed making, and participate in rehearsals and a performance with a conducted ensemble made up entirely of double reed instruments.

Space is limited! Workshop fee covers lunch and beverages during the event.
