Tulsa Community Hymn Festival  @ ASBURY

We are excited to help promote the Tulsa Community Hymn Festival with acclaimed composer and pianist, Dan Forrest at Asbury Church on Saturday, August 26 @ 6 PM. The event’s performance includes a 200-voice choir, accompanied by an orchestra, and Dan Forrest at the piano, singing several of Dan’s arrangements.

Asbury Church is a strategic partner of Union Public Schools; Director Traditional Worship Michael Kemp serves numerous Union students as an saxophone Applied Lessons instructor.

HISTORY

2022 is the 49th anniversary for concerts/events which are presented throughout the world. TUBACHRISTMAS was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902. Through the legendary William J. Bell we reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists/teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards, well structured pedagogy, professional integrity, personal values and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists. The first TUBACHRISTMAS was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City's Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, December 22, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS was arranged by American composer Alec Wilder who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. Wilder composed many solo and ensemble compositions for tuba and euphonium. He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of our chosen instruments. Through Alec Wilder we express our respect and gratitude to all composers who continue to embrace our instruments with their compositions and contribute to the ever growing solo and ensemble repertoire for tuba and euphonium.

2022 TU Summer Band Camp

When?

Rehearsals: Monday-Friday, June 6-10 and 13-17, 8:00 am - 11:30 am

Performances: Friday, June 10 at 7:00 pm (Lorton Performance Center), Tuesday, June 14 at 8:00 pm (Guthrie Green), and Friday, June 17 at 7:00 pm (Lorton Performance Center)

Who?

Eligible students: Any student that will be in grades 9-12 for the 2022-23 school year, as well as recently-graduated seniors.

Fee:

$200 per student, but discounts are available for All-District/All-State/Small School All-State students as well as for those with financial need and multi-student families. Submit Requests Here
