Union Wind Ensemble in OkMEA Performance
Union Bands is pleased to announce that its premiere performing ensemble, the Union H.S. Wind Ensemble will be performing an invitational honor concert at the 2016 Oklahoma Music Educators Association annual convention. The Wind Ensemble will appear at 7:30pm on Friday, January 22 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Chapman Hall. The program will include: "WILD NIGHTS!" (Ticheli), "Concertpiece No. 2" (Mendelssohn), "Embers" (Markowski), and "Amparito Roca" (Teixidor), and will feature guest artists Dr. David Carter of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Mary Lollis & Peter Peterson, both music faculty of Union Public Schools. The concert is open to the public and tickets are general admission, available at the TPAC box office.
Union Junior High Honor Band Students
On Saturday, January 16th, Union 7th, 8th, and 9th grade band students auditioned to be part of the NBDA (Northeast Band Directors Association) district honor band consisting of students from schools across the northeast district of Oklahoma. Students spent several months preparing audition material that they performed for a pair of judges that ranked them amongst their peers. Union had a large number of students audition and is proud to announce the results from last Saturday’s auditions. The students were split into one of three ensembles: 7th Grade Band or 8th/9th Grade Symphonic and Concert Band. These students will attend clinic rehearsals on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th, with a concert performance on Saturday, February 13th at Union High School.
Union Bands is proud to announce the results of the first annual All-Union Junior High Honor Bands. Students that auditioned for the NBDA District Honor Bands were ranked amongst their Union peers to participate in one of two All-Union Honor Bands. These students will attend clinic rehearsals and perform an Honor Band Concert at a date TBA. The students have been split into one of two ensembles: the 7th Grade All-Union Honor Band and the 8th/9th Grade All-Union Honor Band.
Congratulations to all students that were selected for participation in this year’s Honor Ensembles. The hard work and dedication from these students has not gone unnoticed. We look forward to the wonderful concerts these students will prepare and perform this year! The Union Band Staff is beyond proud of the large number of students that participated in last weekend’s auditions. We are proud to recognize Union’s best and brightest junior high musicians.
REGIMENT WINS SILVER AT OBA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Union H.S. Renegade Regiment earned 2nd place out of 18 competing bands in the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association (OBA) 6A State Marching Band Championship at the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct.31, as well as winning the Music Performance caption in prelims.
On Wednesday, October 28, the Union H.S. Band participated in the OSSAA State Marching Band Contest and received straight Superior Ratings.
