LOCATION / GETTING TO UNION H.S.

  • Union H.S. is located in SE Tulsa, just West of Hwy 169, near the intersection of 71st Street and S. Mingo Road.

  • We recommend approaching the campus from SOUTH, by accessing Mingo Road from 71st Street, in order to allow your buses and trucks smooth access into the parking lots by making a left turn into our parking lots.

  • Bus & truck parking is located on North and South zones of the campus. See maps for specific assignments for each group.

    • Only authorized bus/truck-parking is allowed in this area (no general parking).

    • ENTRY: all groups will enter the campus at the traffic signal at 66th & Mingo Road

PROCEDURAL & POLICY INFO

Timing & Announcements

Tulsa’s Dan Potter, voice of DCI and BOA events, will serve as Announcer for the Renegade Review event.

Renegade Review uses authentic Bands of America timing procedures; we hope that this procedure will be a constructive experience for directors and performers, especially those who will be performing at BOA events this season, or those who are considering participating at a BOA event in future.

The main procedure to be aware of is that your band will take the field 4 minutes prior to your scheduled performance time, and the performance will begin at the published scheduled time (for example: for a 1:00pm performance, the band will enter the field for set up at 12:56pm.)

  • Once signaled to cross south goal line into performance area, you will have a four (4) minute maximum prep time for set up and warm-up (placement of props/equipment must take place during this time). This time will begin at the cue of the Timing & Penalties judge.

  • At the three (3) minutes and fifteen (15) seconds mark, the announcer will introduce your band.

  • Once the drum majors hear their names, they are to immediately salute and set to begin the performance.

  • ***THE ANNOUNCER WILL -NOT- ASK THE DRUM MAJORS IF THE BAND IS READY.***

  • The first note of music or the first step-off by a member of the band proper will start the timing of your program and must occur within 30 seconds from the conclusion of the announcement introducing your band.

  • Each band is allowed a performance time of 7 to 11 minutes. This timing will begin at the conclusion for the 4 minute set-up/warm-up time.

  • Following completion of your performance, your band will have 2 minutes to vacate the performance area (beyond the North goal line), which is near the conclusion of your 15 minute block.

  • All props and equipment must be completely removed from the performance area within 4 minutes following the completion of the band's performance.

Electronics

AS PER BANDS OF AMERICA GUIDELINES

  • Multiple 110-volt / 15-amp electrical duplex outlets are available on both the front and back sidelines of the field-level stadium walls near the 50-yard-line, and may be used at the unit’s own risk. Additionally, a 110-volt / 30-amp electrical outlet (NEMA L5-30 twist-lock receptacle) is available at both the front and back sidelines and may be used at the unit’s own risk.

    • Neither the Union H.S. Band, Union Public Schools, nor Union Band Parents Club takes responsibility for supplying electricity.

  • Adults may operate wired or wireless audio control devices from any location outside the Performance Field, including (1) the Performance Area beyond the fifteen-foot (“pit” or “front ensemble”) line, (2) the spectator seating area, and (3) the Director viewing/listening area(s) . Students may also operate these devices from these areas or from within the Performance Field.

  • PLEASE NOTE that Renegade Review will NOT permit band directors access to the press-box, but directors may operate wireless audio system control within the specified director viewing area at the top of Section C near the press-box.

  • To minimize wireless audio interference, wireless audio systems (mics, other audio transmitters) can be tested ONLY during the performing band's 4-minute prep period on the performance field. Wireless systems are not allowed to be active in the parking lots, warm-up areas, or in transit between these spaces or the stadium. Wireless transmitter packs are allowed to be activated (powered-on) only after the preceding competing band has concluded its performance, and must be deactivated (powered-down) immediately following the conclusion of its own performance.

SCENIC ELEMENTS: SETS & PROPS

  • Please abide by BOA restrictions on sets/props height (12' including rails and wheels), especially with regard to elevated surfaces used by performers (surfaces at or exceeding 6' from the field surface must include railing).

  • Bands of America guidelines for prop dimensions and safety will be adhered to.

COMPETITION SUITE | RECAPS

  • Competition Suite software is used for Renegade Review; all scoring and adjudicator comments recordings will be available electronically via this service.

  • Recaps of prelims & finals will not be available until after the conclusion of the finals competition & finals awards ceremony; links will be posted online ASAP after the event’s conclusion.

COPYRIGHT

  • It is the responsibility of each competing school to have secured licenses to arrange and perform any and all music performed, authentically or digitally, prior to the event.

  • During the course of event info submission, all competing units have released Union Public Schools, Union Bands, Union Band Parents Club, from any responsibility related to the competing band’s failure to have secured licenses to arrange and perform any and all music performed in its program.

  • Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this policy.

    • The best vantage point for your Designated Educational Videographer is at the Directors Viewing Area at the top of the stadium bleachers (the row above the top row of center-section seating; location image click here).

      • The designated videographer must vacate the staff view area before the next competing band begins performing,

      • Please note that there is NO ACCESS to the PRESS BOX nor THE ROOF CAMERA DECK for anyone other than event personnel (no competing directors, staff, videographers, etc).

  • PHOTOGRAPHY

    • NOTE FOR YOUR PARENTS / FANS: Still Photos may be taken by spectators, however excessive equipment (tripods, lighting equipment, etc.) will not be permitted into the spectator seating area. Spectators may not capture photos from the field level.
