8th Grade Bands 2022 Winter Concert

Dear 8th Grade Band Students and Parents,

We are excited to share our Winter Concert with you all tomorrow evening at 7PM at the Union High School Performing Arts Center.  Students need to be dressed appropriately (all black) and ready to warm up in their designated location prior to 6:30PM (6:25 is perfect).

Students may be dropped off in the bus loop if that is more convenient.  Parking will be in the south parking lot, so students can also enter the building just as they did for 8th grade night back in October and head to their respective locations (Concert Band on stage; Symphonic Band in Band Room 3, which is the same location we met for 8th grade night).  Parents will enter the HS on the south side of the building. You should see "Performing Arts Center" above the entrance (if it's not too dark..lol).  Look for the staircase going down/ramp into the building.

Students are welcome to leave their instrument cases in their vehicle and just bring their instrument if they'd like.  Each ensemble will have a designated place to store any cases brought in and will need to be retrieved prior to leaving.

All students are required to stay for the entire performance of both ensembles.

Students will meet their parents in the PAC Lobby following the performances.

Thanks for your support and cooperation.  We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and sharing an evening of music.

7th Grade Band Fall Semester Concert UPDATE

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving Break. We are preparing our concert music for December 12th. We are looking forward for showcasing the 7th grade bands on their improvement with playing their instruments.

The Fall Concert will be on Monday, December 12th at 7:00 pm at Union High School Performing Arts Center (UPAC). This concert is required for all 7th grade band students. Their participation at the concert is their Finals Test grade for the first semester.

The students will need to arrive before 6:30 pm. We will warm up the bands at 6:30 pm. So, they will need to be in their seats with their instruments ready to play at 6:30PM. 3rd & 7th Hour Band students will report to the UPAC Stage for warm-up, and 6th Hour Band students will report to Orchestra Room #1610 (located in the UPAC backstage area) for warm-up.

Please remember to be on time and take any traffic issues into account when leaving to come to the UPAC. Please be aware that 71st street and Mingo is a very busy intersection.

To drop off students, they will need to enter on the south side of the school between the UMAC and Sam's Club. Students will need to enter the UPAC building from the south doors. They will then be guided by signs and other directors or students of which way to go to warm up. The audience will be able to stay in the UPAC lobby and will be allowed in for seating closer to the concert start time. Students will remain at the concert for both bands' performances. They will not be able to leave until the end of the concert.

All of the Band students are required to wear a performance uniform. Please begin acquiring the necessary concert attire now to avoid any last-minute problems. Students who are not dressed according to the dress code may not be allowed to perform.

Ladies:

  • Black dress pants or LONG black skirt

  • Long-sleeved black dress shirt (3/4 sleeves are acceptable)

  • Closed-toed completely black dress shoes with TALL/LONG black socks

Gentlemen:

  • Black dress pants

  • Long-sleeve black dress shirt

  • Black belt

  • Completely Black dress shoes and TALL/LONG black socks

The 3rd hour beginning band class has been doing a wonderful job with learning their instrument. This past week we passed out the music for the Fall Concert in December. We have given them a lot of information. Each student should be taking their instrument home to practice their concert music. The concert is only 4 weeks away and only 3 weeks of school days to practice! The 3rd hour band will be combining with the 7th hour band for the concert.

The 6th & 7th hour band classes have also been doing a great job at improving their knowledge  of the instruments. They have also been learning the concert music and the NBDA honor band audition music for January. The students should be practicing their instrument at home. Please encourage your student to bring their instrument home to practice.

We are very excited to be able to showcase all the bands at the December Concert!! Please begin to invite family and friends to this concert. It is free and open to the public. For any questions, please email me at gomez.adrian@unionps.org or call at 918-357-8097

 Hola padres,
